Bloober Team has announced that Cronos: The New Dawn will get a new difficulty setting next year, for those who would rather focus on story and ambience instead of being in a constant state of panic. The new mode will be known as Temporal Diver Mode, and it will be available from early next year.
Cronos: The New Dawn has been getting high marks for its uncanny atmosphere, storytelling, and challenge since it launched in September, but some players have found that it leaves little space for less frenetic, more accessible play styles. Bloober Team has apparently heard these complaints.
Temporal Diver Mode explained
The difficulty update was announced in a video on Bloober Team’s official YouTube channel. The release is presented as a mock-serious film with the studio getting calls asking for something a little more casual. The humour aside, the message comes through loud and clear.
While Cronos: The New Dawn was created to be a difficult game, the developers know that not everyone is looking for that level of challenge.
Bloober Team say:
- Temporal Diver Mode is designed as a more forgiving difficulty
- It is aimed at casual players and story-focused players
- The mode allows players to experience the narrative at their own pace
- It will be released in early 2026
Why is Bloober Team making the change
Bloober Team’s entire horror development identity has largely been built upon crafting extremely stressful and strenuous experiences. Cronos: The New Dawn is no exception.
However, the modern survival-horror audience is much more expansive than it once was. The bar for accessibility expectations in gaming has also shifted.
This was directly addressed in the video, with the studio noting that while the game was intentionally designed to challenge players, community response demonstrated how the team was gating out players entirely.
Temporal Diver Mode aims to reduce that entry point without altering the game’s identity.
This means:
- Hardcore players to keep the original challenge intact
- Newer or less experienced players to enjoy the story
- Horror fans to engage with the atmosphere without constant frustration
What to expect from the new difficulty
Bloober Team has yet to release any specific mechanical data, but, as is the case with the inclusion of such difficulty in other survival-horror games, players are likely to see:
- Lower damage from enemies
- Lenient resource management
- Less punishing combat scenarios
- Easier difficulty curve overall
Crucially, the studio has not indicated that the mode will change existing difficulties.
