Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team's newest horror game coming in 2025, mestyles together a new sci-fi thematic direction coupled with time traveling and a world post-apocalypse.
Immediately after the studio's sci-fi hit Observer in 2017, many were curious why said studio would return to the genre. According to director and designer Wojciech Piejko, in an interview with IGN, it was largely a decision so Cronos wouldn't be confused with the Silent Hill 2 remake.
We knew we were working on Silent Hill, which is a lot more grounded in reality, in terms of its narrative," said Piejko. "We wanted to stay as far away from that as possible, so it needed to be an entirely different world for Cronos. That's how the sci-fi approach came along."
Bloober Team is no stranger to creating darker, more grounded stories after their work on Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, even The Medium.
But Cronos: The New Dawn took players across two distinct timelines, from 1980s Poland to its bleak, ruined future where, after a series of mysterious events known only as The Change, terrifying mutations start to emerge.
Time rifts will allow for the players to travel between these two eras. In the future, the players have to locate certain people back in the past and draw out their Essences with some sort of device called the Harvester.
These Essences are taken back to the dystopian future for purposes not yet disclosed. The game features over-the-shoulder combat with unique, shape-shifting weapons.
It is promising to be an exciting and different kind of horror experience. Coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, Cronos: The New Dawn promises an excitingly different horror experience; stay tuned as more information and gameplay details come closer to the release!
