Cronos: The New Dawn reveals 35 minutes of intense early-game footage, featuring ND-3576’s journey into the New Dawn district and her first encounter with the terrifying Orphans.

A new 35-minute gameplay preview from Bloober for Cronos: The New Dawn has arrived, giving fans of bleak sci-fi another look at the game’s opening hours. It follows Traveler ND-3576 as she makes her way through the New Dawn district to investigate the disappearance of a Predecessor, all while clashing with disgusting enemies along the way.

The new video highlights some of the game’s earlier puzzles, exploration, and what could be an all-out fight with the game’s main antagonist, the Orphans.

The slow beginning of the gameplay video finds ND-3576 poking her nose in abandoned structures, taking notes on the corpses littering the environment. But as she is quickly ambushed by her first Orphan, the pacing picks up to a roaring boil.

These enemies can be quite frightening, not just because of what they look like, but also because the infected their bodies can be set on fire to stop them from rising again or growing even stronger, encouraging a unique type of enemy management.

As the player continues forward, their power is augmented with a new shotgun-like module, giving them the tools to fight through some rather challenging foes.

Subsequent sections of gameplay take players through a section of rubble-rearranging platforming, exploration of a partially collapsed apartment building, and a new tier of much beefier Orphan.

One of these that has to be brought down before the player can use a time rift, another game-mechanic that we’re only getting brief glimpses of, though one that feels core to both the game’s plot and core-loop. After synchronizing with the time rift, ND-3576 continues her search for the missing Predecessor.

Key gameplay highlights:

  • Playable Character: Traveler ND-3576
  • Enemy Type: Orphans (can grow in strength from fallen infected, if not burned)
  • Gameplay Mechanics: Puzzles, Traversal, Modular Weapons, Time Rift Synchronization
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC
  • Demo: Playable at the Xbox booth at Gamescom (Aug 20–24)
  • Release Window: Fall 2025

As always, Cronos: The New Dawn looks like it’s going to be a must-see title this fall, and one with some really big boots to fill, being so similar to a game like Returnal and Dead Space.
