Andrzej Sapkowski versus CD Projekt Red saga may be coming to a favourable end for both parties soon as the former will get some compensation, although not as much as he asked for. Further cooperation was remotely hinted by the developer.
Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of The Witcher book series, and CD Projekt Red came into a bit of a controversial spotlight when the author of The Witcher book series started asking for a compensation of 60.000.000 PLN which is equal to ~$16.000.000 / ~€14.000.000 / ~£12.280.000, and the latter refused, but now they are reportedly close to a favourable deal for both sides.
Puls Biznesu that the parties have reached an amicable settlement, which dictates that CD Projekt Red will indeed offer further compensation to Sapkowski, despite the latter signing the notorious contract in which he got a fixed amount of 35.000 PLN (~$9.350 / ~€8.150 / ~£7.150). Compared to The Witcher series' profits, it is easy to see just how bad the contract was for Sapkowski, but it was his own decision, despite CD Projekt Red offering him a percentage of the sales.
The new deal's details are secret for the most part, but it is known that the amount is substantially lower than what Sapkowski initially asked for. CD Projekt Red did not offer this as an actual compensation, but rather as a form of recognition for Sapkowski's work, as the company remains adamant in stating that the previously signed contract must be respected.
CD Projekt Red also noted that they want to keep a healthy relationship with Sapkowski, because it is in the interest of everyone. That last statement may not be much to go on, but saying "everyone" instead of simply referring to the two parties involved could potentially mean "good for the fans".
CD Project Red
If this turns out to be true, we could potentially be looking at another Witcher instalment once CD Projekt Red conclude their work on Cyberpunk 2077. It is too early to confirm any of this, and it is pure speculation at this point, especially because the settlement between CD Projekt Red and Sapkowski hasn't been officially signed yet - they merely agreed on terms and are set to pen it within a month.
