One of the biggest action RPGs set to release this year, Dragon's Dogma 2, will be a strictly single-player experience, even thogh some of the gameplay and screenshot can make the game look a bit more like a co-op title.
In the recent inteview with Automaton Media, game director Hideaki Itsuno was asked if Capcom are considering any multiplayer options, for potential post-launch updates. Itsuno very adamntly said there are no plans for any for of multiplayer.
"We have not been considering any form of multiplayer for Dragon’s Dogma 2. I think online games have their good sides; just as offline games have their own," Itsuno said.
He explained that the concept of the first Dragon's Dogma game was always to be a fun offline game withouth any annoying aspects that online games poses.
"The concept of the original game was to incorporate fun gameplay elements not found in conventional offline games while removing all the “hassles” of online games. This is one of the basic original ideas of the first game that I don’t plan on straying from."
Obviously, in the day and age where multiplayer titles are leading the market, it's a fair question to Capcom who could have easily gone with a different idea, to at least implement co-op.
We do salute their decision to keep Dragon's Dogma 2 a strictly single-player game as we can never get enough of great solo experiences, especially in such gorgeous fantasy worlds.
Dragon's Dogma 2 officially hits the shelves on March 22, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
