Escape From Tarkov-like mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will probably be paid content, not free as previously reported.
Even before Activision officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, rumours surfaced online that the game would feature a brand new mode named DMZ, which is apparently an Escape From Tarkov-like experience.
Rumours also stated that DMZ would be free-to-play in order to attract a large number of players in the same vein as Call of Duty Warzone, the mega-popular free-to-play battle royale.
However, while DMZ is still pretty much underway, it won't be free-to-play. Reliable insider Tom Henderson reveals that DMZ will launch later this year with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and will be a paid experience.
According to sources familiar with the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, DMZ is just "another mode" and the rumours about the mode's scope have been exaggerated.
This certainly implies that DMZ is much smaller in scope than previously reported and probably won't be as attractive on launch due to lack of content but over time, it will probably attract players if Infinity Ward keep supporting it.
But until we get an official confirmation from Activision, take everything you've just read with a dose of scepticism since it's just a rumour at this point and nothing more.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is officially launching on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on October 28, 2022.
