After months and months of rumours and speculation, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been officially announced with a trailer and the reveal is set for August 26.

The trailer is called Know Your History and the description reads, "Know your history or be doomed to repeat it. Verdansk. August 26."

Unfortunately for those hoping to see some gameplay snuck in there - the trailer doesn't feature any. That said, it's sufficiently chilling and intriguing to hype us up for the August reveal, and given how it's set for Wednesday - it should help break up the week somewhat.

What the trailer does show is Yuri Bezmenov, former KGB agent, who is most notable for blowing the lid on the Soviet model of subversion. In fact, the clips used in the video are from one of his lectures, which can be found on YouTube and which is well worth the watch, if nothing else then for academic purposes.

At the end of the Know Your History trailer, underneath the official reveal date are the studios tasked with this iteration of Call of Duty - Treyarch and Raven Studios. Yeah, you don't go much more iconic than that.

Earlier rumours pegged the reveal for August 10, 2020, so we suppose they were close enough. Most of them have been fueled by the fact that Activision have been sending mysterious crates to Call of Duty influencers, but it matters little at this point.

Even though Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was far better than some sections of CoD fans gave it credit for, Treyarch have a chance to prove it alongside a pretty legendary studio, so bring on Verdansk.
