It seems that Treyarch has managed to somewhat quell the serious case of moneygrabitis that Activision has been suffering from and it increasingly looks as if we'll be seeing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 arriving without its season pass.

A leaked Black Ops 4's Specialist Edition already appeared in the wild and it has no mention of a season pass either, leading many to suggest that Activision and Treyarch are consider other ways to ensure Call of Duty remains fresh but profitable.

Seeing as how Call of Duty games usually came hand in hand with season pass announcements, this is a pretty big surprise. Knowing Activision, doubly so.

Gaming Intel cite their sources as saying that Treyarch are still hoping to have DLC season passes in the Zombie mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is where the real changes will occur.

Treyarch is supposedly planning on releasing free Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer maps on a monthly basis, as opposed to their earlier model, where they rolled out several maps every few months. It turns out that the extra volume doesn't help much, since the hype around these maps peaked and subsided pretty quickly, so one or two new maps a month should theoretically maintain maximum population.

Perhaps most importantly, Activision and Treyarch's DLC had a nasty tendency to divide players who were willing to fork out more cash for a game they've already bought, and those who aren't. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will of course be looking to change that.

There's no doubt that Treyarch have big plans for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and as far as this particular business model goes, we really think they're on the right track. Finally.

Of course, not even Treyarch are hiding that the success of Fortnite: Battle Royale has played a big role in making Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's battle royale mode called Blackout, even though they apparently think they can do better . Well, we guess we'll see about that.
