NetEase Games and 24 Entertainment (Lin’an) Studio have officially unveiled Blood Message, a cinematic, story-driven action-adventure game currently in development for PC and consoles. Built using Unreal Engine 5 and enhanced by the studio’s own proprietary tools, Blood Message marks NetEase Games’ first foray into AAA single-player experiences - and it already looks visually incredible.
Set in Ancient China
Set during the final years of the Tang Dynasty, Blood Message follows the harrowing journey of a nameless messenger and his young son as they travel east across over 3,000 li (around 1,000 miles) of dangerous terrain. Their mission: to deliver a message that could alter the fate of a crumbling empire. Players will experience a deeply personal narrative about loyalty, survival, and the quiet strength of ordinary people during extraordinary times.
Impressive Visual Fidelity
What sets Blood Message apart immediately is its presentation. The game showcases a level of visual fidelity that borders on photorealism. The characters look incredibly detailed, reminding me of those from Horizon Forbidden West, while the environments are also crafted with so much care. Lighting, terrain detail, and character animations all point to a game that’s aiming high in terms of visual fidelity.

Not Open World
Gameplay-wise, Blood Message is designed as a linear, single-player experience with a strong focus on narrative. Players can expect intense third-person combat that mixes stealth and survival mechanics, delivering grounded, visceral action without veering into fantasy. The emotional core of the story centres on the relationship between father and son, framed by themes of sacrifice, family, and cultural identity.
This is not an open world game, and judging by the trailer, I'd say it's reminiscent more of something like the Plague Tale series in terms of world design.
NetEase Games, traditionally known for multiplayer and live-service titles, are aiming to expand their portfolio with single-player titles, and Blood Message marks the beginning of that journey. According to Zhipeng Hu, Lead Producer and NetEase Executive Vice President, the game represents a "new generation of high adventure" for the company.
"We are ushering players into a new generation of high adventure with Blood Message," said Zhipeng Hu. “As our first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games, after two decades of deep dedication to the gaming industry, we are prepared to deliver a truly epic and cinematic experience for players around the world.”
Blood Message is currently in development for PC and consoles, but NetEase did not specifically mention PlayStation 5 or Xbox. We'll have to assume that it's coming to both.
No release date has been confirmed yet, but we could play this one sometime next year or in 2027, since everything we've seen in the trailer looked surprisingly polished.
