As we get closer to the conclusion of Battlefield 2042's Year 1 content, EA and DICE have today revealed fresh details about the upcoming Season 3, their work on Specialists and maps revamp among other things.
DICE also confirmed in the showcase video that Battlefield 2042 will be free-to-play throughout December 2022 and with the start of Season 3, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass as well as EA Play.
Season 3 is set to introduce a new Specialist, a brand new map alongside reworks for both Manifest and snowy breakaway. DICE also confirmed they have started full pre-production on the Season 4 content which is coming next year, reiterating that their work on the game is not done.
Here are the full details:
Breakaway and Manifest maps rework
Update 3.1 will introduce Manifest rework which will bring flags together, improve the visibility, add more cover and better pathing between the flags.
As for the Breakaway map, the rework is coming in early 2023 with a dramatic overhaul to the map which will move the Oil Rig much closer to the action and better focus our gameplay within a more refined playspace.
The map will also have new flags, reworked Town and nearby Refineries and new shaders ice and snow to bring a new visual look to the map.
New Vault weapons
At the start of Season 3, Bad Company 2's XM8 is being added into the LMG pool alongside Battlefield 3's A-91. More Vault weapons will be added later during Season 3. DICE also teased new hardware but we'll have to wait a bit more for full details on these.
A lot of other changes and tweaks are also coming in the future updates, including reworks for specialists. You can read more about those changes and everything else coming in Season 3 on EA's blog.
