Updated on June 12, 2023: Added new trailer, gameplay details and release date info.
Obsidian Entertainment are currently working on their next big RPG called Avowed , which was officially announced way back in 2020. Avowed is one of the most anticipated Xbox games at the moment and many fans are hoping to see it at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase .
Below, you'll find pretty much everything we know about Avowed so far, including the game's story, setting, trailers, platforms and what kind of gameplay to expect. So without further ado, let's dive into it.
Avowed release date
Avowed is officially launching sometime in 2024. We still don't have a specific release date but at least we know it will be coming within the next 18 months as announced at the Xbox Showcase.
Avowed story
Avowed is set in the Pillars of Eternity world called Eora so it will follow the rich lore found in this Obsidian franchise. We also know that Avowed's story will take place in the Living Lands, which is one of the continents in Eora. You can check out the map of Eora here for a closer look at the Living Lands.
Here's what the Pillars of Eternity lore says about the Living Lands:
"The Living Lands is the mountainous region of a large northern island renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life. Its weather is unpredictable and its ecosystems vary dramatically from valley to valley. The Living Lands are home to an assortment of races in a variety of colonial and independent settlements."
Avowed gameplay
Avowed will be a first-person perspective role-playing game like The Outer Worlds, Fallout or Skyrim. Given the history of Obsidian's games, expect rich dialogue and a story where your choices will matter.
The teaser trailer also gave us a glimpse of Avowed's spells, while also confirming that players will be able to wield both magic and melee weapons. The combat should be similar to Skyrim in terms of spells and melee.
The trailer at the Xbox Showcase also revealed various types of enemies like skeletons, lizard-like race and humans. We also got to see plenty of magic in action and there's a Sparta kick attack too.
Avowed trailers
The trailer gave us a first glimpse at the environments and enemies that we'll meet in Eora, while also providing a sneak peek at the game's potential art style, which seems to aim for a realistic look.
The second trailer for Avowed gave us a first look at the gameplay, magic and combat. The game surely looks much different than the first trailer, which rocked a more realistic art style. You can check out the gameplay trailer below.
Avowed platforms
Avowed will officially launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC . The game is also launching day one on Xbox Game Pass. There will be no PlayStation 5 version as this is a first-party title from Xbox Game Studios .
Avowed is aiming to be a true next-gen game so there won't be a last-gen release on Xbox One consoles.
