Obsidian Entertainment recently revealed a bunch of new gameplay and details about their upcoming fantasy action RPG Avowed, which is hitting Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC later this year.
In a new interview with PC Gamer, Game Director Carrie Patel and Gameplay Director Gabe Paramo talked more about the game's companions, who will take a bigger role in the story and have their own side quests.
And while this does sound pretty exciting, some players will be left disappointed with the news that Avowed won't let you romance Kai, Giatta or any other companion who joins your adventure in the Living Lands.
While Obsidian did not specifically confirm they don't have romances in Avowed, the article states that players should not expect such mechanics as Patel and Paramo never mentioned it in the interview and romances were never really Obsidian's thing in the first place.
The studio's previous RPGs like The Outer Worlds did not have romance options at all. Pillars of Eternity series also have very minimal romancing options so it's not surprising that Avowed won't dabble with love affairs at all.
If this comes as bitter news to you, Obsidian shared some additional exciting details regarding companions. You will have "a party camp" where you can have heartfelt chats with Kai, Gaitta and other companions, and the overall goal is to try and build relationships, get to know them and learn about their perspective on the world.
Companions in Avowed will also provide valuable information about specific regions in Avowed, potentially even revealing some clues on hidden locations or potential quests.
To us, Avowed looks super exciting and we certainly can't wait to learn more in the coming months. Hopefully, the next time Obsidian showcase their baby, they give us an in-depth look at quests, abilities and more regions.
Avowed is launching in Autumn 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
