In the old days, aim assist was always one of the hot topics in Apex Legends. Earlier on, it really didn't matter much, but as players improved further, the fairness of aim assist started to fall under scrutiny by MnK users.
In the competitive scene, aim assist has no equal. More than 64% of controllers have been used by players in ALGS 2024 Split 2 Pro League NA according to Liquipedia, making it their main method of input. Further, the top 20 players in Pro League are actually around 75% controller users, going on to prove a point that aim assist is overwhelming.
This has resulted in many pros, formerly MnK users, switching to controller for the aim assist advantage. Because of this, players have been making ongoing complaints to Respawn, asking them to nerf aim assist to even out things a bit for MnK users. Well, as it now appears, Respawn was listening, with a new leak suggesting huge nerfs to aim assist in Season 22.
Osvaldatore, one of the well-known leakers within the Apex Legends community, announced on X: "Thus far two huge nerfs to aim assist are confirmed for Season 22: Lowering the strength of the aim assist from 0.4 to 0.3 and adding more camera shake when damaged." These changes are said to be made only to the PC version.
While a 25% reduction in the intensity of aim assist doesn't sound that dramatic, it should still turn out to be notable in gameplay. Other changes that will affect gunplay are increased camera shake, which will further degrade aim assist efficiency.
While this bit of news brings a smile to MnK players, controller users are, without a doubt, very outraged at the potential adjustments. Keep in mind that this was from a leak and there might yet be hope that the nerfs won't even make it to the live servers.
