Cold Iron Studios have started showing off Aliens: Fireteam, their third-person co-op shooter that brings the Left 4 Dead formula into the world of space marines and xenomorph.
The gameplay demo is courtesy of IGN, who teamed up with developers and jumped into Aliens: Fireteam for some alien carnage accompanied by some mandatory Q&A.
As you'll soon see, the devs demoed the mission to Katanga orbital refinery in the outer rim, and it is the players' unfortunate privilege to be the space marine squad responding to a distress call. Which, as we all know, is the safest recipe to get killed in sci-fi.
Aliens: Fireteam pits players against hordes of the xenomorph, many of which were created specifically for the game. There are more than 20 enemy types in the game, each with its strengths and weaknesses, albeit reliably leaning towards the former.
Players get to pick from five available classes - Gunner, Demolisher, Technician, Doc and Recon, and the areas they excel in are pretty clear from their roles.
While each one packs a punch in their own department, Aliens: Fireteam is likely to play at its best when teamed up with a familiar team. Cold Iron confirmed there will be bots and you'll be allowed to play with them, but this is not where its charm is.
Aliens: Fireteam players get a combination of led-spewing weapons, primary and secondary per player, as well as two special abilities each, some of which can apparently be used for weapons too.
"An innovative Perk Board modifies and improves your abilities, while a unique Challenge Card system alters the approach to each Campaign mission, offering a new experience with every playthrough", the dev wrote on the Aliens: Fireteam Steam page .
