11 Bit Studios, the developers behind The Alters, a very popular action survival that was released just recently, are being accused of using AI-generated content inside the game, which has been noticed by some keen eyes inside the game’s hub area, the player’s base.
It didn’t take long before 11 Bit Studio came out with the official statement they shared on social media, where they said they used generative AI indeed, but, as the studio said: “ in specific cases for temporary WIPs during the development process”.
In their official statement, 11 Bit Studio explained this was an error that slipped by after one of their graphical designers used a piece of a background texture that was supposed to be a placeholder. However, this was supposed to be removed from the final release, but it was overlooked, and that particular placeholder text was mistakenly left in the game.
In addition to this incident, 11 Bit Studios also admit that they used AI to localise some in-game videos the alters can watch as part of their relaxation activities. Those videos should be handed to their translation partners, but due to the limited time for the release, they decided to let AI localise those translations, with plans to check everything up once the game is out as part of some upcoming updates.
The entire statement from 11Bit Studios can be read on the X link posted below, where you can form a wider picture about what they've been accused of and what their actual response was.
This is quite praiseworthy of 11 Bit Studios because they didn't stay silent on those accusations and decided to explain everything to the smallest detail to the people who appreciate The Alters. We are definitely one of those people, and we showed that in our review, giving this game a very high rating.
The Alters is one of the most original titles with very unique survival mechanics and a story that will blow your mind away. The Alters is available now for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and is part of the Game Pass subscription from day one.
