The next year will be seeing some pretty heavy releases, including 11 Bit Studios sci-fi survival adventure - The Alters. The game was announced on the PC Gaming Show this week is launching in 2025.
As an early preview of sorts, 11 Bit Studios surprised players with a demo up and live now on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Accompanying the game's demo, there is also a brand-new trailer that tangles itself deeper within the interesting story.
In The Alters, players follow the story of Jan Dolski, an interstellar worker stranded on a dangerous planet under the relentless heat of a blazing sun. Jan's only hope of survival lies in a high-tech mobile base meant for a full crew, which he initially lacks.
The twist? Jan finds this mysterious resource called Rapidium that lets him create alternate versions of himself. These "Alters" represent what Jan could have become if he had made different choices in life.
Each Alter differs in abilities, personality, and emotional depth, further complicating gameplay with a mix of new opportunities and additional challenges. Though they are required for base upkeep, gathering, and crafting, these differences often spark conflicts for players to handle.
It's a mix of third-person survival mechanics, base-building, and management, where action combines with strategy and a deep, personal story. The story is about the consequences of past decisions, and more importantly, one question - what if you could remake yourself?
The Alters is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S next year, and it will be on Game Pass. For those who would like to get a view of what is in store for them, the demo can be a taste of this survival experience.
