The new God of War series was confirmed by Amazon Prime yesterday, and we already know the writers, producers, directors, and other crew members who will work on this huge project, but not the actors. The fans are particularly interested in who will play Kratos.
Taking the role of Kratos could pose a challenge, even for the best actors in the world, given his personality, unique voice characteristics, and of course, his physical appearance. Some names were discussed among the fans even before the official announcement of the series, and now the speculations grow even bigger.
Here is the list of our favourites:
1. Cristopher Judge
This man deserves to be the first on the list. Christopher Judge breathed new life into Kratos for the last two God of War games. His voice acting was so impressive that he won the award for the best performance in video games in this year's The Game Awards for playing Kratos in God of War: Ragnarök. He also kept in shape for this role because he did all the motion capture for the game, even though he is 58 years old. He even retweeted one fan's request with a simple "co-sign," meaning he is more than willing to take on this role.
2. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
Regarding the looks, "The Rock" is our No. 1 choice. His physical appearance is stunning, the man with a body fit for a Greek "god." He even played Hercules in the same-named Hollywood blockbuster from 2014, so playing the Greek with godly powers and strength wouldn't be his first role of this kind. His voice is also "deep" enough to match the one from Christopher Judge. But his acting capabilities are, according to many people, questionable, to say the least. But with the combination of his perfectly shaped head and bushy beard, he would be a perfect match for Kratos.
3. Dave Bautista
Another "mountain" of the man with perfect physical capabilities for the role of Kratos is Dave Bautista. Like Dwayne Johnson, he is a former WWE wrestler, and in the world of movies, he is most famous for his role as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Unlike The Rock, he is much better at acting, and his role as Drax definitely confirms it. Now, would he be a good choice for the role of Kratos? In our personal opinion, yes. A good choice, but not perfect.
4. Jason Momoa
According to most fans all over the internet, Jason Momoa would be the perfect actor to embody Kratos in a live-action series. He is a proven actor with a great number of engagements in movies (most famous for the role of Aquaman) and TV shows (Game of Thrones); his physical appearance is great; his voice acting is even greater, and his beard looks good on him. Aside from Christopher Judge, he could arguably be the best choice for this role.
5. Gerard Butler
Last but not least, Gerard Butler is already familiar with "Spartan ways," having played the most renowned Spartan of all time, Great King Leonidas of Sparta. Even though no one doubts Butler's acting qualities (his career speaks for itself), he is a little out of shape for such a complex role, but given enough time, he may be able to revive the great Spartan from 300 he played 16 years ago.
And that's it. We know there are tons of other actors who could play Kratos even better than the ones we put on this little list, but this is our personal opinion, and we are really eager to see the full cast for the series once it is revealed.
