Rumour has it that EA and DICE's Battlefield is going to test the battle royale waters as well and it seems like there isn't a game on this planet that isn't going PUBG and Fortnite way. Provided that the rumour is true, of course.

Sweden might ban loot boxes by 2019

Sweden has joined the legislative battle against loot boxes. The minister of civil affairs, Ardalan Shekarabi, suggested the mechanic could be banned by 2019. A study from the University of Hamburg prompted the German Youth Protection Commission to also take action.

EA's finance chief Blake Jorgensen announced the return of the microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront II. The system should be turned back on in the "in the next few months".

EA hides behind 'Star Wars canon'

EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen spoke at the Credit Suisse Annual Technology, Media and Telecom Conference recently. He explained why they will not be moving away from microtransactions and that they are looking for ways to re-activate the system. The usual cosmetic loot boxes seem to be out of the question as EA doesn't want to "violate the canon of Star Wars".

Australia's Gambling Commission on loot boxes

War on microtransactions and loot boxes has reached Australia. A Reddit user contacted the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation about their stance on the issue, and a Strategic Analyst for the Compliance Division at VCGLR responded.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 - less is more

Star Wars Battlefront 2's progression system updated again. Top-tier heroes such as Darth Vader and Leia Organa now cost less credits to unlock. Star Wars Battlefront 2 will launch properly at 11:00 PM GMT on Thursday, 16 November.

Star Wars Battlefront 2's 10 hour trial period is now live. The game's official currency you can buy for real money are Crystals that can be bought in bundles. The bundles will cost you anywhere between £3.99 and £79.99.

Battlefield 1: Turning Tides-a new Operation

Battlefield 1's third expansion will be available in December. Turning Tides will bring a variety of maps set across Gallipoli and the North Sea. A new faction will be available in January.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 crate concerns

EA responded to the loot crate criticism by releasing a statement. They are "looking into more ways to allow players to stay and play together as a team". Star Wars Battlefront 2 releases on 17 November.

EA must have realised that anyone buying their Battlefront reboot at this point is probably doing so by accident, so they are giving the game's mess of a scam season pass away for free. Even if you don't own Battlefront apparently.

Battlefront 2's first DLC will be tied to The Last Jedi

EA's thralls are still pretending that Battlefront (2004) never happened and that Battlefront (2015) was actually pretty good. Battlefront 2 will release a few months before The Last Jedi hits theaters, but appropriate DLC will be deployed in time to exploit the free publicity generated by the movie.

AUGUST 14

New Battlefield coming in 2018 - current one still doing great

A new entry in the Battlefield series will be releasing in 2018, while the current iteration has gained 2 million players since May 2017. EA will also be announcing some sort of big deal release for Battlefield 1 during this year's Gamescom.

Star Wars: Battlefront II Closed Alpha

E-mail invites to the Star Wars: Battlefront II closed alpha have been sent out. The alpha becomes available 29 June at 9 AM BST, but some people are reporting that they already have access to the game. The first impressions are being shared on the game's official forum.

Star Wars: Battlefront II beta coming in fall - only if you pre-order

EA has announced some details surrounding the launch of Star Wars: Battlefront II. The game is scheduled to launch on 17 November 2017 following a beta test open to everyone who pre-orders the title.
