Zhang Jiao, unlike the other bosses in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, will adapt to your play style, and to beat him you must play with patience. This is how we overcame this boss.
Zhang Jiao has pretty much the same attack patterns as the other bosses in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty with one major exception: He will always try to adapt to your play style, meaning if you try to keep your distance, he will use his elemental attacks, and if you come close, he will use his extended hands to push you away and hurt you.
Maybe Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is a repetitive game, but at least Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja made sure the bosses are all different, and to beat them you will always have to use a different approach.
If beating Zhang Jiao proves too challenging for you, this guide will show you how to beat him without too much trouble. So without further ado, let's send this general to his natural habitat.
Tips on defeating Zhang Jiao, General of Heaven
Try to find every flag you can on the level and raise your morale to at least level 20 before attempting to face this boss, as Zhang Jiao will have a moral level of 20. There will be a lot of very dangerous enemies on this level, including tigers, undead, matriarchs, and big guys with hummers, so be careful not to engage them all at once, but rather isolate enemies and deal with them that way.
You can farm moral points very easily once you reach the final flag before the boss arena. Rest on the flag and look down the stairs. One matriarch will be on the right side. Go on the platform above her and jump-kill her. Return to the flag, rest, and repeat the process for as long as you need to farm enough moral points. Our advice will be to exceed the boss's level by at least five points.
Now you are ready to face Zhang Jiao. Again, choose your two strongest allies to accompany you to this fight; although they will not last for long, at least they will provide enough distraction for as long as they are alive.
Zhang Jiao can summon all sorts of elemental powers, such as lightning bolts, wind vortexes, and fireballs, and there is no pattern in how he uses them. However, when he wants to wield the elemental attack, he will spin his hand, clearly showing which attack he will perform. If he sends a lightning bolt towards you, try to dodge; wind vortexes can be avoided and blocked, and fireballs can be deflected.
When you are close to him, always lend him two attacks and quickly block. This approach may be slow, but it's effective. Also, try to roll behind his back and attack him, especially if he is occupied attacking your companions.
Wait for his red attack and precisely deflect it to stagger him. This will take a significant toll on his health. Do this twice, and this boss will be one less obstacle on your noble warrior path.
