One of many ways to make your character stronger and more capable in Where Winds Meet, the newest MMO action RPG from NetEase Games, is by upgrading the gear you're using throughout your gameplay.
Gear upgrading can be accessed by entering the side panel or opening the pop-up menu and choosing the 'Develop' tab. Inside this tab, you can navigate to the 'Gear' tab and click on any piece of gear you're currently using.
The next menu will bring you the option to enter the 'Enhance' menu, and inside this menu is where the actual upgrading of your gear takes place.
Can you upgrade pieces of gear individually?
There are eight types of weapons and six pieces of gear you can upgrade in Where Winds Meet, and each type can have many different iterations for you to find and equip. However, upgrading a single piece of gear is impossible; all you'll be able to do is to tune the particular weapon or armour piece, but 'upgrading' is reserved for gear pieces as a term.
You'll be able to upgrade, for example, left and right weapons, helms, armour, bracers, or greaves, but not a piece of gear you found and equipped; those can only be replaced by the better gear you find in the world, craft, or buy.
Tips and tricks for upgrading gear
Once the gear upgrades are available, you'll get a small notification in the form of a green arrow next to the 'Develop' option. To do the upgrade, enter this menu and see which part can be upgraded.
The easiest way is to press 'Quick Enhance' directly from the 'Gear' menu. In this way, the game will do all available gear upgrades automatically. However, if you want to do them manually, click on any piece of gear, and once inside the next menu, hold the square button (PS5 controller) to enter the enhance menu.
Here, you can see all eight gear pieces and choose which one to upgrade. Of course, upgrading costs materials, but those materials can be easily found if you know where and how to look.
Open whichever piece of gear you want to upgrade by pressing the square button again; if you have upgrade materials, you'll be able to upgrade it; if not, the game will give you the option to track the materials down, and here is probably the most important advice you should heed when it comes to upgrading gear.
The game will give you multiple options, like buying materials from different vendors (not recommended because all the materials can be easily gathered), or you can simply follow the option to locate the materials by exploring the world. The game will point you in the right direction and highlight all the resources that contain materials in question.
Now, when you arrive at the place where the materials are located, you'll be sent to a search zone, and you'll stay in that zone for as long as there is even one piece of the materials you're tracking.
To easily pinpoint the material location, use Wind Sense and search for small question marks. Materials you're looking for will be bordered in white colour and will be quite easily recognised. This small hint will help you gather all the materials needed for upgrading gear very easily and very simply.
Our advice is to upgrade gear as soon as the game allows you because it will give you the edge in battle and upgrade some very useful stats, like damage output, damage resistance, and many more.
