The Genma Griller trophy in Onimusha: Way of the Sword asks for something that reads as straightforward: set three Genma alight at the same time. In practice, plenty of players burn enemies constantly through the early and mid game without ever triggering it, and it's easy to assume the trophy is bugged. It isn't. The trick only becomes available once you've picked up a specific Oni Armament and pushed it to its final upgrade.
Why the obvious methods don't work
Setting Genma on fire with an oil coating, or using something like the Wind-Whipper near an open flame, will burn enemies just fine, but neither of these counts towards the trophy. Only one method has been confirmed to actually trigger it, and it isn't available until later in the game.
Where to get the Firebird Flute
The Firebird Flute is an Oni Armament capable of setting enemies on fire, and you'll come across it inside an Oni chest during the "Shadow Falls South" mission. It sits right on the main path, so it's close to unmissable; the only way to walk past it is by deliberately ignoring your gauntlet's Oni Vision glow when it points the chest out.
How to upgrade it to unlock the charge ability
Picking up the Firebird Flute isn't enough on its own. You need to upgrade it all the way to its maximum level, which unlocks a charge ability essential to this method. Upgrades for Oni Armaments are handled at a Spirit Mirror, under the "Upgrade Equipment" tab.
How to trigger the trophy
Once the Firebird Flute is fully upgraded, find a group of three Genma standing close together. Southern Kyoto has enemies scattered throughout, so if you're struggling to find three in one spot, pick a location where enemies reliably spawn and reset the world from a Spirit Mirror until you get a group. With the Oni Armament's gauge filled using blue souls, press and hold R1 to charge the attack, then release once it's fully charged. All three enemies catch fire simultaneously, and the trophy pops immediately after.
Quick tip: Don't waste time searching the whole map for a natural cluster of three Genma. Resetting the world at a Spirit Mirror near a known enemy spawn is faster and far more reliable than wandering around hoping to stumble onto the right group.
