Jagged Alliance 3 can be stingy with ammo in some situations, resulting in being unable to loot enough to replace all the bullets spent on killing the enemies.
Additionally, gunpowder is rare so crafting ammo is a rare occurrence as well but there is a neat way to get a whole lot more of the precious resource.
Namely, you can extract gunpowder from explosive materials. You will need the Wirecutter tool which is usually not that useful. Besides a few entry points in the Ernie Island fort and The Good Place, you will mostly not use the tool at all.
To extract gunpowder from explosives, you will need to right-click on the Wirecutter and choose the "Combine" option. That will allow you to choose the second ingredient, which involves certain types of explosives.
Eligible explosives for gunpowder production include:
- Pipe bombs
- TNT
- C4
- PETN
None of these are common items on their own but when you add up four sources of potential gunpowder, seeing it becomes much more frequent. Keep in mind that a couple of places sell gunpowder for dirt cheap but they are time-gated so you will have to waste precious merc wages waiting for the restock.
While crafting ammo, be careful when choosing 5.56 Standard. At the time of writing, the recipe was bugged and cost 30 parts per 30 bullets, which is way too much.
