One of the easiest puzzles in Shar's Temple can actually prove to be the most difficult but it only takes one trick to finish it.

Shar's Temple will have several puzzles for Baldur's Gate 3 players who wish to reach the Nightsong and see what the fuss is all about.

Anyway, without delving into the spoiler territory, the Silent Library room can prove a bit tricky to solve.

While it's not one of Shar's trials, it is essential for the continuation of Shadowheart's quest and major plot points.

Silent Library solution

When you enter the library, there will be a handful of enemies you should dispatch first. After that, you will notice an altar you need to put something on but there is no explanation what it will reveal.

The only clue you will get is from the plaque at the altar, mentioning something about silencing the Nightsong.

Since this is a library, you probably concluded a book will be the answer and you would be correct in this assumption. The library is full of different books but the correct one is found on the bookshelf immediately right from the entrance into the room. Its title is Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger.

Take the book, click on the altar and then insert the book to complete the puzzle.

Once you've done that, a new room will open and you will be able to loot a certain spear that will play a major role in the story from that point onwards and will also convert into your first Legendary item in the game.

Keep in mind that this weapon has a way of returning to your hands so don't be alarmed if you lose it during a cutscene.
