Microsoft confirmed that their upcoming shooter Gears 5 along with Age of Empires I, II and III: Definitive Editions will be available on Steam, not only Windows Store. Furthermore, they also want to offer their games on other PC stores.
In their second big announcement today, Microsoft have officially confirmed that the fifth instalment in Gears of War series, Gears 5 will launch on Steam, along with Windows Store. Gears 5 will be joined by three Age of Empires games in their Definitive Editions as Microsoft look to offer PC gamers more choice when it comes to buying their games on PC.
Apparently, the decision to offer Xbox Game Studios' games on multiple PC store on the launch day is a part of a wider change at the company. According to Xbox head Phil Spencer, Microsoft heard the feedback from PC gamers who don't want store exclusives on PC, and that's why the company is ready to change their policy.
"We know millions of PC gamers trust Steam as a great source to buy PC games and we've heard the feedback that PC gamers would like choice," Xbox head Phil Spencer wrote in his blog post.
While Spencer did not directly mention other PC stores such as Epic Games Store and GOG, he said that they are aware of other stores on PC and are working to enable more choice in which store players can find Xbox Game Studios titles in the future.
Judging by his words, it looks likely that Epic Games Store also becomes a place for Microsoft's titles, but let's wait and see if an agreement can be reached between the two giants.
As you may know, Gears 5 and Age of Empires trilogy will join Halo: The Master Chief Collection that was announced for Steam earlier this year. It remains to be seen if Microsoft bring the rest of their games catalogue, which includes Forza series and other Gears of War games or only new games will be available on multiple stores.
