As the Epic Games Store moved on to Thimbleweed Park, they posted the name of the next free game coming on 07 March 2019 and we're talking about Monomi Park's delightful sim Slime Rancher, which easily deserves a cuteness overload warning.
For starters, the game has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam at the time of writing, boasting a 10/10 rating from 20,345 reviews, while Metacritic rates it at 81.
Slime Rancher is a story of Beatrix LeBeau, "a plucky, young rancher who sets out for a life on the Far, Far Range", where Far, Far Range is actually a planet.
Beatrix harvests slime for a living, and not just any slime - the cutest sort of slime you could think of. As she progresses, there's more slime of various properties and more stuff to build.
Once you're done with the ropes, you'll be expanding your ranch to house more slime of different varieties, getting more construction options, and the rest of the progression specific to the genre
The world of Slime Rancher, i.e. Far, Far Range, is a whimsical place and the game is quite relaxing overall, thanks to some truly wonderful design by Monomi Park's graphics and audio teams.
In fact, brief browsing of Steam's review section for Slime Ranger will reveal a bunch of glaring reviews of the game itself, as well as people who've found the whole package to be so uplifting that it helped them in other areas of life - that's the level of cuteness we're talking about.
Monomi Park's Slime Rancher officially launched on 01 August 2017 for all the major platforms except PlayStation 4, whose owners had to wait until August 2018.
It picked up quite a few prestigious nominations along the way and a glance at the trailer will show you just why.
Of course, you'll have to wait another two weeks for Slime Rancher, as Epic Games Store's current freebie is Thimbleweed Park, Terrible Toybox's hilarious modern take on the old-school adventure genre in the vein of Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island.
