During the Xbox Games Showcase live stream, Xbox and developer Obsidian Entertainment officially unveiled a brand new trailer for their first-person fantasy RPG Avowed.
The new trailer looked even prettier than the footage we've seen in January Developer Direct but the main focus this time around was on giving players some new details on the game's story, which seems to be quite holding quite the mystery. We also got to see new biomes, enemies and potentially new companions.
Obsidian also gave us a release date but not in the actual trailer, which only stated "Coming 2024". The developer accidentally leaked the release date on their blog, confirming that Avowed will officially launch on November 12, 2024 for PC, Xbox Series X|S as well as Game Pass for PC and consoles.
Avowed - New story details
Avowed is set in the Pillars of the Eternity universe with a story that puts players in the boots of a king's envoy, who travels to distant The Living Lands to investigate a plague called Dreamscourge that is taking over the island.
As a stranger on in these lands, players will have to carefully navigate their relationship with various factions on the island while the work to find the source of the plague. But Obsidian are very adamant that the plague is not the only thing that players will be up against as tensions between different groups are found all over the island.
Avowed companions - Giatta
Avowed will also have companions, which is somewhat of a tradition for Obsidian's RPGs. So far, we've seen two of them with the latest trailer focusing on Giatta who is described as a "brilliant and outspoken animancer who studies soul energy."
Like the player character, Giatta is desperate to find the solution to the Dreamscourge. "She’s a vital ally who will help you understand the unique metaphysical ecosystem of the Living Lands," say Obsidian.
