PlayStation 5 players will soon get to join Discord voice chat directly from their console, Sony announced via their blog today. The update will start rolling out to all PlayStation 5 users in the coming weeks starting with players in Japan/Asia, followed by Europe, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East, and finally the Americas.
This means that you will no longer need to rely on the Discord PC or mobile applications to talk to your buddies while gaming.
"Today, we’re pleased to share that we’re starting to roll out the ability for PS5 players to join Discord voice chat directly from the PS5 console, without relying on the Discord PC or mobile apps to initiate the connection."
How to join Discord voice chat directly from PS5
Sony also explained how players will be able to join Discord voice chat from their PlayStation console. It's a fairly simple process so kudos to Sony and Discord for making this such an easy experience.
- Select the Discord tab in Game Base within the PS5 Control Center and choose the Discord server or DM group you’d like to join.
- Select your preferred voice channel. This will reveal more details, such as who is already in the channel chatting.
- You’ll also receive a PS5 console notification when another Discord user calls you, allowing you to join right away.
Sony also highlighted that you need to update your console to the latest system software and make sure your PlayStation profile is linked with Discord. If you haven't done that, here's a handy guide to help you out.
Last but not least, Sony also confirmed that they will roll out the ability to share your PSN profile on any messaging or social app. This one starts rolling out next week.
