The Initiative's upcoming shooter Perfect Dark could have third-person perspective gameplay sequences, it's been revealed in the latest job listing.
We haven't heard much about Perfect Dark ever since Xbox announced the return of this spy thriller franchise a couple of years ago. The most recent update came in form of the announcement of the partnership between Xbox Game Studio The Initiative and third-party studio Crystal Dynamics , known for recent Tomb Raider games and Marvel's Avengers .
And while we wait to hear more about Perfect Dark, Xbox fans have been searching for new information in the job listings posted by Crystal Dynamics and Xbox. In one of these job listings, it's been revealed that Perfect Dark could have third-person gameplay systems in addition to a first-person perspective.
"Deep knowledge about gameplay systems (particularly 3rd and 1st Person experience with weapons, traversal, melee and ranged weapon), setups, and animation's role within them (from concept, to rigging, to on screen)," it's written in the job listing.
While job listings can give us a clearer picture at what the game could be, it's worth noting that not everything that can be found in the job listing ends up being in the game. On the other hand, it's entirely possible that Crystal Dynamics are looking for someone with experience in third person gameplay systems specifically because Perfect Dark will have such systems.
Perfect Dark was initially announced as a first-person secret agent thriller set in a near-future world so it's certainly news that the game will also have third-person sequences. We've heard previously from some Xbox insiders that the game could have "Josh Wick-esque" combat , meaning a lot of action, movement and close-quarter encounters.
If we had to guess, we'd say that the third-person perspective could be used for those melee encounters. However, everything you hear now about Perfect Dark, that is not coming from the official channels is speculation and rumour so certainly take it with a grain of salt.
Perfect Dark does not have a release date at the moment but we know it's coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S via Game Pass.
