It didn't take long for the internet to turn on Xbox 's new boss. Shortly after Asha Shar shared her gamertag publicly, the scrutiny began and it wasn't just her fairly empty achievement list that came under fire. A vocal portion of the online crowd became convinced that her X account was being managed by AI, with her posts apparently too polished or too on-message to be the work of an actual human being.
Shar shut that down directly, signing off her response with a dry "And yes, I'm writing my own posts :)". But the damange was already done thanks to dozen of articles circulating online, claiming Xbox's new boss uses AI to pretend being a gamer.
The AI accusations arrived alongside a separate wave of criticism after users dug into her gaming history and found a shared family account with a modest completion rate. Shar addressed that too, confirming it was a shared home setup used across family devices, which neatly explains the eclectic game selection. She's since sorted it, with everyone in the household now on their own accounts. Smart move since online trolls will certainly follow Shar's every move for the opporunity to call her out.
Does the CEO of Xbox need to be a hardcore gamer?
This is probably unpopular opinion but I think no, it does not. The notion that someone can't effectively lead one of gaming's biggest platforms without hudreds of hours in Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077 or you name it, is a bit daft.
Shar's stated priorities are clear and they include making Xbox the best place to play, return to the platform's roots, which is one that made Xbox fans fairly excited, and ship great things. I'd say that those are the words of someone who understands the assignment, AI or otherwise.
