Krafton announced a top-down tactical shooter that kind of reminds of XCOM-like titles but is really more along the lines of renowned Door Kickers series.
Thunder Tier One was announced at The Game Awards 2020. The description of "tactical shooter" doesn't seem to begin to describe the game though as the devs put their time in making it fairly unique.
Players will take control of elite task force operatives and fight skilled AI opponents. They will be able to do this solo or team up with up to three other players, which could give more tactical angles to approach the missions.
The trailer also mentions the ability to prove oneself in PvP so those looking for competitive modes can enjoy the game too. Furthermore, the game will feature stat trackers and Steam leaderboards which could potentially result in grassroots of a new esport.
Those interested in trying Thunder Tier One can do so through the playtest, until the closure of the event on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at 16:00 GMT. During this time, the players will be able to check out singleplayer or co-op mode and PvP modes such as Advance and Secure and Deathmatch.
According to the official description, the game will require players to quickly assess their surroundings and use their tactical skillset to make decisions in realtime.
This concept was apparently first conceived in 2016, by PUBG head of action and gunplay unit, Pawel Smolewski. He began working on Thunder Tier One as a personal project with a small team and the game was eventually pitched to Krafton in early 2020, which resulted in additional resources and the company offering to pitch it to the wider public.
