THQ Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors has defended Darksiders 3 after the game received mixed reviews which criticised its technical issues and gameplay changes. Wingefors said he's proud of his team and thinks they made an excellent game.
Darksiders 3 is off to a shaky start with mostly mixed critic reviews. The current Metacritic score stands at 66 which is an average based on 38 critics. User scores are more generous with favourable reviews and 7.2 score but the general consensus is that everyone expected more from the latest iteration in Darksiders series.
This made THQ Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors respond to reception and he firmly stood his ground and supported the developer team and publisher. "I'm really proud of what we've been able to show you, I think Gunfire has made an excellent game, and even my publishing team in Vienna has been working really hard to execute on this," Wingefors praised the studios.
He continued by saying that while there will be people who won't like it, most fans will still enjoy the game.
"There are always a few people not enjoying this kind of product, but there are also people really enjoying it. If we stick to our promise and deliver a product that the fans really enjoy, I think we’ll be fine", Wingefors concluded.
The scores are not that bad and it's exactly as Wingefors said, there are many critics that love the new gameplay changes and also a lot of those who dislike it. Darksiders 3 took a different approach to combat which is now more challenging and Souls-like. While that's a good thing for many people, others are calling it a Dark Souls ripoff.
Critics at least agree on one thing and that's performance issues. The game suffers from terrible frame drops and graphical issues. Some players report that this can be a big problem in fast-paced boss fights where quick reactions often make the difference between life and death.
Whether mixed reviews impact the sales of the game it remains to be seen, but there's no doubt THQ Nordic would love to continue their record sales increase with Darksiders 3 which could open the door for more future studio
