Our beloved dogfighting symphony, The Falconeer, is getting a big update tomorrow, both figuratively and literally, as it's the Kraken coming for a visit. But there's more.
Now, the Kraken update is the first free content update for The Falconeer and it's a big one, with new locations, sea monsters, wreck-diving and more.
There's also a bunch of fixes, but more importantly, some of The Falconeer's core features have received touch-ups in order to provide for a smooth dogfighting experience.
So, turning speed of enemy birds has been reduced by 10-25 per cent, which should make fights smoother and reduce difficulty. The Falconeer's AI has been adjusted to prefer smoother turns and run away more to give more weight to the chase.
Enemy warbirds will now roll to avoid incoming fire, which is a nice way to counter the difficulty drop. At the same time, players will get an off-screen indicator for locked birds, so that you never need to lose your locked prey among the sharp turns.
Developer Tomas Sala has been hard at work on Magnetars and Lightning Casters, and this time he and his one-man audio team produced impact sounds, which will make the guns sound even sweeter.
There will be a bunch of smaller changes to The Falconeer as well, with the Store menus now requiring an extra step to purchase items. You can actually imagine how this could be qualified as a big change by someone with a twitchy thumb.
Among the fixes coming with the Kraken update is The Falconeer's splashing of debris onto the sea, which apparently had the wrong or no FX earlier. "Now has generous splash", Sala wrote.
