Today we finally got quite a detailed blog post from Remedy, explaining the PlayStation 5 enhancements for their critically acclaimed title, and our game of the year, Alan Wake 2.
In short, Alan Wake 2 on PlayStation 5 will introduce ray-traced reflections in Quality Mode with 4K output resolution, upscaled from 2176 x 1224. But despite the beefy new GPU in the Pro, these new features come at a cost - the terrifying 30 FPS.
There's a 60 FPS Performance Mode too, which features significantly higher output resolution and has more visual detail compared to the base PS5 but not ray-tracing as that's still too expensive for consoles.
The overall image stability, fog, volumetric lighting, and shadow accuracy have been improved on the Pro, too so you should definitely be getting a much better image overall.
Below is the TL;DR of both modes, as well as the visual comparison of Quality Mode on PS5 and PS5 Pro.
Alan Wake 2 PS5 Pro Quality and Performance mode features
Quality Mode
- 30 FPS
- Ray-traced reflections (opaque and transparent)
- Output resolution 3840 x 2160 (4K)
- Render resolution 2176 x 1224
Performance Mode
- 60 FPS
- Using approximately the same render (image quality) settings as the base PS5 Quality mode.
- Render resolution 1536 x 864
- Output resolution 3840 x 2160 (4K)

There are a lot more details in Remedy's blog post so if you're someone who enjoys reading about the development process of these features or video game graphics and rendering tech in general, I wholeheartedly recommend you check it out.
Remedy also included two comparison videos for both modes if you want a much quicker presentation and don't want to read all that tech stuff.
Alan Wake 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
