Nacon Studio Milan has announced significant changes to their upcoming title, Terminator: Survivors, confirming the game will miss its planned 2025 release and will no longer include cooperative multiplayer. In an open letter to fans, Creative Director Marco Ponte explained that the studio is shifting their focus to deliver an authentic single-player Terminator experience and deliver the best possible game.
The decision to remove co-op came after months of internal testing and community feedback. "To give you an authentic 'Terminator' experience with the best possible shooting and exploration gameplay, we would have to put aside the cooperative multiplayer," Ponte stated. The studio believes concentrating on single-player will better capture the isolation and dread of surviving Skynet's uprising. As a fan of single-player games, I'm all in on this change.
Early access release plans scrapped
Additionally, Terminator: Survivors will now launch as a complete premium release rather than through early access. No new release date has been announced, though Nacon confirmed closed playtests will run throughout 2026 under non-disclosure agreements. Players can register for testing opportunities to provide feedback during development. The Milan-based studio emphasised that player input remains crucial to shaping the final experience.
Nacon say that the delay will allow the team to refine world design, combat mechanics, narrative depth, and atmosphere. Ponte acknowledged fan expectations are high given the Terminator franchise's legacy and promised updates when the studio is ready to share a concrete launch window.
This announcement certainly marks a significant course correction for the project, which was originally positioned as a co-op survival game. By pivoting to single-player, Nacon Studio Milan hopes to deliver what Ponte describes as "an uncompromising vision of the world after Judgment Day" that does justice to the iconic sci-fi property. I don't know about you, but I'm still excited for this one.
