Team Cherry has announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong will receive a free expansion called Sea of Sorrow in 2026, alongside confirmation of enhanced Switch 2 versions for both Silksong and the original Hollow Knight.

Team Cherry has revealed the first major expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong, announcing that Sea of Sorrow will launch free for all players in 2026. The indie studio also confirmed that Silksong has sold over seven million copies since launch, with millions more playing via Xbox Game Pass.

The nautically themed expansion continues Hornet's adventures with new areas, bosses, and tools. Team Cherry released a brief teaser but is keeping further details under wraps until closer to release. The studio emphasized that Sea of Sorrow will be completely free for all Silksong owners when it launches next year.

"Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further," Team Cherry said, thanking the community for their support throughout Silksong's launch year. The developer highlighted the unexpected strategies, mods, and community support that have emerged since release.

Switch 2 Enhanced Versions

Team Cherry announced they're developing updated versions of both Hollow Knight and Silksong for Nintendo Switch 2. The Hollow Knight Switch 2 Edition will incorporate all enhancements Silksong received on the platform, including high frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and additional graphical effects. Both games will be free upgrades for existing Switch owners when they launch in 2026.

PC Ultrawide Support

PC players can access new updates immediately through public beta branches on Steam and GOG. The updates add full support for 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratios, benefiting Steam Deck and ultrawide monitor users. Team Cherry plans to release additional fixes and improvements before the full update rolls out next year, with all current platform versions receiving feature additions and bug fixes in preparation for the Switch 2 launch.

The announcement comes after Silksong's successful launch earlier this year, which saw enough simultaneous players to temporarily crash digital storefronts.
