GSC Game World has delayed the free Stories Untold content update for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl by two days due to last-minute complications. The substantial update, which was originally scheduled for December 16, will now launch on December 18 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
The developer announced the delay on social media, apologising to fans while promising the wait will be worthwhile. "We appreciate your patience and are also sorry for possible frustration. It will be worth it, though — we promise!" GSC Game World said in the announcement.
In a lighthearted acknowledgement of potential player frustration, the studio accompanied the delay announcement with a GIF showing an in-game character angrily throwing an infusion stand, capturing the rage some fans might feel about the postponement.
The Stories Untold update represents a significant addition to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, introducing a brand new storyline centered around a mysterious radio signal near Malachite causing hallucinations and psychological effects on stalkers. The free update includes eight quests that can take hours to complete, seven locations to explore, six new characters, a unique weapon (the GP37V2 rifle), and the potential for a completely new hub in the Burnt Forest region, depending on player choices.
Players will investigate strange occurrences in the Red Forest region alongside Professor Medulin and radio enthusiast Banzai, with the narrative branching based on player decisions. The update also adds new locations including the Fairy Tale Pioneer Camp and Old Mine, while repopulating existing areas like Car Dump, Army Warehouses, and Volkhov SAM with fresh encounters.
Despite the brief delay, the two-day postponement shouldn't significantly impact most players, with the update arriving just before the weekend. GSC Game World has not provided specific details about the complications that necessitated the delay.
