It is nothing new that games receive enormous discounts during holidays. Hell, many gamers wait the entire year to buy their favourite titles during this period. However, those discounts are usually reserved for a bit older games or the newer games, but then the discounts aren't so big—up to 20 per cent max.
For instance, games released this year are usually only slightly discounted. That’s why I was surprised to find Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Digital Deluxe Edition, which normally costs $100, on sale for an astonishing $4.99 while browsing Xbox deals on the Microsoft Store.
At first, I assumed it was just the Digital Deluxe upgrade, but no—it’s actually the full game. For those unfamiliar, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was released in early 2024 and was anticipated to be a worthy successor to the Batman Arkham series, as it was developed by the same studio, Rocksteady. However, it ended up being one of the biggest flops in gaming history, with neither critics nor players having anything positive to say about it.
Seeing such a massive discount, it’s hard not to wonder if the game flopped so badly that even Warner Bros., the game’s publisher, decided practically giving it away might be the only way to attract players.
It remains to be seen whether the game will receive similar discounts on other platforms, such as the PlayStation Store, Steam, or Epic Games, which seems quite likely. This strategy might even attract and win over some players. As for me, I’ve already bought it (guilty as charged) just to see firsthand how bad it really is. If I don’t like it—which is very likely—I won’t regret spending $5.
