I certainly didn't have Elden Ring co-op PVE survival game on my The Game Awards bingo card. It was a pleasant surprise, especially coming from a developer that are known for single-player experiences.
Elden Ring Nightreign is a standalone multiplayer co-op action survival game coming sometime in 2025 to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
From Software say that players will be able to team up with up to two buddies and must outlast three day and night cycles while they explore, take on various monstrosities and gear up to become powerful enough to take down big bad bosses at the end of each day. Intense.
Additionally, the game is set in Limveld, a place in a universe parallel to the events of the Elden Ring. You'll get to choose from eight unique characters, each with their own abilities and ultimate powers.
The game has battle royale mechanics too, so the map will shrink as the three day and night cycles pass. You will be able to play this one solo but I imagine it's going to be much harder than teaming up with a squad. From Software say that combining different powers and abilities is key if you want to take down the most powerful foes in Nightreign.
The map of Limveld will evolve constantly so you'll never find the same enemy or chest on the same spot. Furthermore, the longer you play and venture into the more dangerous parts of the map, you'll find tougher enemies that will drop powerful weapons.
Sites of Grace are still in the game and will act as resting places where every player can level up and gain crucial powers.
As you've probably spotted in the trailer, the game features a wide variety of enemies, bosses and dungeons so it's safe to say that there will be plenty to explore once Elden Ring Nightreign drops sometime next year.
While this probably wasn't what many Elden Ring fans hoped for, it's still a pretty exciting announcement for those players who enjoy co-op experiences. I know I'll be playing this on day one.
