Valve has updated the Steam Deck’s product page with a warning message stating that certain versions of its handheld gaming PC might become temporarily unavailable due to persistent memory and storage supply issues. Customers had just recently seen the Steam Deck sell out across the US website as supply concerns mounted last week.
All variants of the Steam Deck OLED models are affected, with 512 GB and 1 TB versions both listed as Valve warns that regional availability will depend on supply.
The company has already bumped down production figures late last year to account for the current situation. GPU shortages are continuing to impact the hardware market alongside high demand levels, leading to shortages across multiple products and platforms.
OLED models affected by ongoing supply issues
Customers visiting the product page for the Steam Deck have started to see a message indicating the OLED versions of the device will continue to fluctuate between being in stock or sold out in some areas. This follows Valve discontinuing the production of the original LCD Steam Deck back in December.
When stock of that SKU runs out, it will no longer be available, pushing customers to OLED models. Valve explained that sellout across US stores earlier this week is now specifically being caused by limited memory and storage component availability.
Global hardware supply crunch worsening
Analysts say the crunch started getting worse toward the end of 2025 when prices for RAM started to surge as a result of increased demand for AI products. Suppliers began allocating more silicon to data centres and AI hardware over consumer tech.
Other changes to the tech industry have impacted supply chains for GPUs and more, causing delays for various hardware product launches.
Valve even delayed other hardware projects not too long ago due to shortages.Valve isn’t the only company dealing with shortages, but the Steam Deck is feeling the crunch as well.
