Steam has long been the leading platform for PC gaming, with the largest number of games purchased each year on their online store. While Valve never officially shares sales figures, on their official site, you can find an annual list of the 100 best-selling games on the platform.
To clarify, the top-earning games don’t necessarily correspond to the highest number of copies sold. Some titles are free-to-play but generate massive revenue through microtransactions, while others may sell many copies at a lower price and earn less overall than a more expensive game with fewer sales.
What’s particularly interesting is how Steam ranks its top-earning games without revealing the exact revenue. The lists are divided into four tiers: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, based on sales performance, with games randomly ordered within each tier. We must say that some titles surprise us very much to be inside the Platinum tier, and most of all The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remaster and Hollow Knight: Silksong.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remaster is a remastered version of the game from 2006, which means the gamers still highly appreciate good old games. This could be a wake-up call for some developers to consider remaking and remastering old masterpieces. What is surprising about Hollow Knight: Silksong is its price of just $20. This means this game sold more copies on Steam than we thought.

What we at AltChar can brag about is the fact that our Game of the Year choice, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, sits among the Platinum tier games, while Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 (The Game Awards GOTY) is within the Gold tier – in your face, The Game Awards. We're joking, of course, but it seems the gamers recognised the quality of KCD2 as we did, and we're very happy about that.
