Today we have some good and some bad news for those of you who are eagerly awaiting Stalker 2. The good news is that the developer GSC Game World will finally give us the first comprehensive gameplay demo of the game on August 12, 2024.
The team confirmed that this Developer Deep Dive will be done in collaboration with Xbox, where they plan to show a variety of new content including interviews, behind the scenes look into the development process and brand new footage of the game showing a world overview, various locations and gameplay.
The gameplay demo will feature a full walkthrough of one of the story quests so we should get a pretty good idea of where Stalker 2 sits in terms of optimisation, polish and general gameplay direction.
The bad news is the delay. Stalker 2 was supposed to launch this September but that won't be happening as GSC Game World announced the new release date is now November 20, 2024.
Game Director Yevhen Grygorovych said that the team needs more time to fix more bugs, which should ensure a smoother launch overall.
“We know you might be tired of waiting, and we truly appreciate your patience. These two additional months will give us the chance to fix more “unexpected anomalies” (or simply “bugs”, as you call them). We are always grateful for your ongoing support and understanding - it means the world to us. We’re just as eager as you are to finally release the game and for you to experience it for yourself.” Grygorovych said.
All in all, we're really excited to see more of Stalker 2 at the upcoming developer deep dive. While another delay is a bit unfortunate, it's still better than releasing an unfinished product so GSC Game World should definitely take as much time as they need with this one.
