Marvel's Spider-man is now the best selling superhero game ever. That's according to update from The NPD which says that over the last three months Spider-man sales dethroned Rocksteady's third game in Arkham series - Batman: Arkham Knight.
Insomniac's critically acclaimed Spider-man has smashed another record after edging out God of War sales just after its release. This time it's an achievement that Insomniac can be quite proud of as Marvel's Spider-man is now the fastest selling superhero game in the history of the United States.
This means that over the last three months, Spider-man sold more copies than Batman: Arkham Knight which held the spot since its release back in 2015. The impressive sales look even better if we take into consideration that Spider-man is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and Batman: Arkham Knight was released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It wasn't received well on PC though but the other two platforms were doing great, so that's still a lot of ground to cover for Spidey.
Unfortunately, we don't know just how many copies of Marvel's Spiderman Sony actually sold but the number is certainly higher than Batman: Arkham Knight's milestone after the first three months.
Marvel's Spider-man has enjoyed very positive reviews from both critics and fans and it became a best selling first-party game in Sony's history with more than 3.3 million sold copies. It's also the best selling Marvel video game ever after breaking a record that was previously held by LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.
The game was also nominated in a variety of different categories at The Games Awards but unfortunately, it didn't win a single one and was beaten by God of War for the Game of the Year. Sweet revenge from Kratos for disrupting his record sales.
Insomniac are continuing with updates for Spider-man and we got The City That Never Sleeps and Turf Wars DLCs as well as a much-requested iconic suit from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. If you're yet to play Sony's record smasher, wait no longer as it's currently available at 36 per cent discount on PlayStation's January Sale.
Yes, we know January is over a week away. Marketing can have its quirks.
