One of the best space games you can play right now, Everspace 2, is getting upgraded to Unreal Engine 5 to future-proof the game's visuals for years to come. In the official announcement, developer Rockfish Games stated that they actually don't plan to use many of the engine's signature features like geometry system Nanite and dynamic global illumination tech Lumen.
The in-house testing confirmed that their current solutions already have better optimisation but Rockfish find it neat to have these Unreal Engine 5 features available for implementation sometime later.
"Mainly we're looking at this as a way to help future-proof the game so we have less difficulty bringing updates and expansion content down the road. We want to be able to support EVERSPACE 2 for a long time," Rockfish Games said.
Everspace 2 fans will be happy to hear that Rockfish Games confirmed that they plan to support the game for a long time. In addition to this tech upgrade to Unreal Engine 5, the studio have their creative team working on future expansion and a new update which will be just as big as The Armed and Dangerous update.
"We've shared that the Incursions update coming later this spring will include more gameplay tweaks and bugfixes as well as new legendary items and a new game feature."
All in all, it's great to see that Rockfish Games plan to support their spaceship shooter for years to come. Everspace 2 might be a game from a very niche genre but there's probably a healthy player base for this one, especially after the recent console launch.
