In the latest development update, Sea of Thieves developer have confirmed that private servers will be added to the game in one of the future updates along with a lot of other quality of life improvements.
Rare's pirate action-adventure Sea of Thieves has come a long way since its a shaky launch and lack of interesting content. The game has received several major updates and now, it's a proper title for everyone who enjoys the open waters, pirate battles and treasure hunts.
The developers are still working hard on the game and plan to introduce a lot more content to make Sea of Thieves even more enjoyable and they regularly talk about these upcoming features in developer update videos.
In the latest update, Executive Producer on Sea of Thieves, Joe Neate talked about some of the quality of life improvements that are coming later this month and also mentioned one major feature that is being worked on.
If you are playing Sea of Thieves, you probably know that recently, players have started Sea of Champions, which is a community-run tournament in Sea of Thieves’ Arena mode. Neate said that it's a "really cool" event from creators in the community and that Rare love to see people creating "this kind of stuff" in their game.
To help and encourage players to create more similar events, Rare will be adding private servers in one of the future updates for Sea of Thieves. Neate said that there is nothing imminent regarding the private servers as they are working on it at the moment but the studio "definitely intend for private server support in the future."
"That's on our mid-term roadmap, so it’s not in the immediate stuff that we’re working on at the moment," he said. Additionally, Neate asked the creators of Sea of Champions events to reach out to Rare if they have a "really cool pitch or idea" to see if that is something that the studio can "help support behind the scenes, in terms of setting it up".
