In the ever-evolving landscape of League of Legends, Riot Games has implemented significant gameplay alterations in Season 2024, with notable updates to the map, Baron, items, and more.
Among these changes, the rework of Rift Herald stands out prominently, particularly with the introduction of Shelly's flashy charge mechanic. Previously, upon defeating the Rift Herald, players would obtain its eye and summon it to crush turrets, with no control over its movements thereafter.
However, in Season 2024, players gained the ability to mount the Rift Herald and steer its charge trajectory, offering newfound control over its actions. Despite these innovations, balancing issues and bugs persisted, prompting Riot to address them in Patch 14.3 to refine the Rift Herald mechanics further.
Key Changes in Patch 14.3:
- Slow Start (New): Rift Herald now exhibits high maneuverability for the first three seconds after spawning, gradually decreasing over time as its speed increases every 2 seconds.
- Damage from Wall Collision: Collision with walls while controlling Rift Herald now inflicts only 20% of the damage compared to crashing into a tower.
- Player-Summoned Rift Herald: The spawning time for player-summoned Rift Herald trinkets has been expedited by 1 second.
The introduction of the "Slow Start" feature aims to enhance maneuverability by providing players with an initial adjustment period before Shelly's speed accelerates. Additionally, reducing the damage from wall collisions makes controlling the Rift Herald less punishing for players.
Riot acknowledges a known bug related to Rift Herald control, where delayed commands result in unregistered inputs. While this issue remains unresolved in Patch 14.3, Riot assures players of a prompt resolution in subsequent updates.
With Patch 14.3 already rolled out on live servers, players can immediately experience the revamped Rift Herald mechanics and the associated changes.
The adjustments made to Rift Herald in Patch 14.3 reflect Riot's commitment to refining gameplay experiences and addressing community feedback. As players adapt to these alterations, the Rift Herald's role in matches is likely to undergo further evolution, contributing to a dynamic and engaging gameplay environment in League of Legends.
