Rainbow Six Siege players are over the "moon"(read rainbow) as new leaks have surfaced, teasing the possible return of pre-reworked maps as a new game mode.

A new leak has sparked discussion among the Rainbow Six Siege community, teasing the possibility of original maps returning to the popular online shooter via a new game mode.

While new players may not be as excited about this, the veterans of the Rainbow Six Siege community surely are, even though no release date has been revealed yet by Ubisoft and all of this is just a rumour at this point.

According to the X (formerly Twitter) post with the caption "Welcome Back" by user UBI_Frax, a whole slate of maps that received the unpopular reworks could be coming back to Siege in the near future.

Long-term Rainbow Six Siege players have been constantly asking Ubisoft to allow players to play on old maps. With this leak, it seems like their wish may come true. But now the question arises:

What's so special about these pre-reworked maps?

To answer this, you must understand why maps are reworked in the first place:

  • To update and improve visuals/art
  • To get rid of the imbalance (problematic spawn points, imbalanced bomb sites, lack of/excessive choke points, etc.)

But in competitive games like Rainbow Six Siege, maps, or any element is reworked for one main reason: to make things more competitive.

There is no doubt that competitiveness is an important aspect of any game. However, the issue with being fixated on the competitive aspect is that developers are often forced to overlook another crucial aspect of a game. That is - having fun!

Yes, sometimes the designers and developers emphasize competitiveness so much that they end up eliminating the "fun" part of the game.

Why are players so excited about getting back pre-reworked maps?

Other than nostalgia, players are mainly excited because it allows them to take a break from the competitive nature of the game and play casually on the maps they actually love.

We're certainly hopeful that this leak turns out to be true because as big fans of Siege, we can't wait to jump into these maps with the boys and experience some Youtube-worthy moments.
