At the time when Epic's Fortnite: Battle Royale seems to be stealing all the headlines, it's easy to assume that PUBG is down and out but make no mistake - Brendan Greene's game is still a monster and one of the most popular games around.
This year's PUBG Global Invitational is PUBG's first professional esports tournament held in Mercedez Benz Arena in Berlin Germany. It lasted three days in front of an average of 30,000 fans and the event had a prize pool of $2 million, not too shabby.
PUBG Corp is probably delighted with the viewership numbers though, as the game had a peak of more than 100 million concurrent viewers across all major platforms, with the majority coming from Twitch and YouTube as expected.
PUBG Corp's CEO Changhan Kim said that the company is "humbled by the enthusiasm from fans" and announced that this is just the beginning. "With the foundation laid at this year’s world championship event in Berlin, we made major strides in proving the potential of PUBG esports on a global scale and aim to present an even more robust esports offering in 2019 as we roll out our continued vision", he said.
The same event also hosted the PGI 2018 , where pro players, most of them competitors on the tournament, teamed up with celebrities in teams of four for a prize pool of $1 million. Naturally, all the proceeds go to a charity chosen by the winners, seeing as how first three spots all won awards of $600,000, $300,000 and $100,000 respectively.
The PGI 2018 Charity Showdown winner was Team Papa, the members of which were Evermore, Juankorea, EscA and Simsn. Note that the latter two competed in PGI under the Gen.G Gold banner.

Just so as to clear my conscience for my statements from the first paragraph - I personally went on record slagging off PUBG on numerous occasions but not because I think the game sucks. Quite the contrary, I think the game has literally poured the foundations of the battle royale genre and had there not been for Brendan Greene, even the mighty Fortnite: Battle Royale would've stayed in its Save the World diapers.
Nevertheless, I wish PUBG Corp had the same amount of affinity towards their game, as I have a feeling I would've fixed it with a monkey wrench by now.
