It's pretty clear that 2020 was kind towards consoles and all things related to gaming, and now Sony revealed that PlayStation 5 is the company's biggest console launch ever.
It's well worth saying that PlayStation 5's main competitor Xbox Series X/S did the same , even selling out in Japan , the home of PlayStation. Which is not to diminish Sony's results, but rather to point out that the year 2020 was at least good for something.
"We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year - please stay in touch with your local retailers", said the company via Twitter.
It's a bit ironic that Sony would mention retailers, as many commenters seem pretty outraged over online sales of PlayStation 5, many of which ended up with scalpers. Or in other words, they're available but at astronomic prices. Then again, it appears like the most passionate ones managed to get their mitts on Sony's next-gen consoles.
Ironically, the comments on PlayStation 5's Rick and Morty ad were about the same, albeit they were attempting to be funny. Granted, the joke does get old after 800 reads, but the ad is pretty great nevertheless. It's classic Rick and Morty abandoning morals and continuity for personal gain, wrapped in so many metas one stops counting.
PlayStation's head honcho Jim Ryan has confirmed that the entire team is astonished by the number of preorders, but that the supply is meant to get better soon. According to him, Sony should be rolling in more supplies before and after Christmas, so better luck this time.
