It seems that the preliminary sparring ahead of the next episode of the console wars has begun. Following Microsoft's recent Xbox Series X presentation, PlayStation 5 is getting its own deep dive into the underlying architecture tomorrow.
PlayStation's Twitter account posted, "Tomorrow at 9am Pacific Time, PS5 lead system architect Mark Cerny will provide a deep dive into PS5’s system architecture, and how it will shape the future of games."
If you're in Europe, this means 5pm in Central European Time, which is arguably more convenient for the working folks.
As you can see from the tweet's comment section, the Church of PlayStation is delighted with the news. In fact, there are quite a few funny memes, most suggesting that PS5 is about to murder Xbox Series X.
Whether that's what will happen is yet to be seen, but one thing is for certain - it will be a tall order considering Microsoft's recent reveal.
If we're to follow the console wars lore, Microsoft was usually the one with the superior hardware, whereas Sony kept winning on the content front.
Xbox Series X is meant to be the fastest one yet, and 12 TFLOPS GPU paired with an 8x Core Custom Zen 2 CPU at 3.8GHz are a good indicator of the Xbox Series X's punch.
PlayStation 5 is said to run on an 8-Core AMD chipset and a Navi GPU, so it certainly won't be a slouch. Sony confirmed that thanks to some clever design, their next-gen console features with full backwards compatibility with PS4 games and PSVR hardware.
Sony will definitely need every bit of advantage it can get in this round of the console wars, because Microsoft made sure to stock up on some top studios in the meantime. In other words, both are bringing out the big guns.
