Obsidian Entertainment announced on their website the the first of three DLCs for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is called Beast of Winter and will be launching on 02 August 2018, expanding on the game's existing naval opportunities.
Beast of Winter will offer new islands for exploration in the icy southernmost corners of the Deadfire Archipelago, home to fanatical worshipers of Rymrgand, the god of entropy and disaster.
The cult consider you "They call you Duskspeaker, a harbinger of the end, and pray you fulfill your destiny", Obsidian say.
Players will be joining forces with one of Rymrgand's priests, Vatnir, in order to handle the creatures of the Beyond. The Beyond is a mysterious dimension, "populated by ancient souls and filled with devilish challenges".
Ultimately, you'll be reaching Hel and confronting a terrible creature, said to be feared by gods themselves. And all that in a day's work, in a quest to save Eora from being refrigerated back to the Ice Age. Easy.
Coincidentally or not, Beast of Winter's arrival coincides with the arrival of the story DLC Deck of Many Things and the major 2.0 update. Note that unlike Beast of Winter, the other two will be completely free for all players.
Deck of of Many things will be coming alongside the merchant shift, which Obsidian says will feature plenty of interesting goodies for seasoned and new players alike. This leaves Pillars of Eternity 2 with two more DLC shipments planned before the end of 2018, which are September's Seeker, Slayer, Survivor and November's The Forgotten Sanctum.
The two will bring increased focused on fighting skills and tactical prowess of your party, while The Forgotten Sanctum will put a difficult choice in front of players, whereby they'll have to choose to either "befriend, betray or befuddle" wizards of Eora.
On a side not, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire will be launching for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Switch by the end of 2018, in case you're interested in more TV-centric Pillaring.
